Job Description
Controller advising startups, small businesses, and nonprofits through e2E’s strategic finance, accounting, HR, and tax services. Managing reporting, forecasting, compliance, and client engagements.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to entrepreneurial clients by delivering consulting, accounting, and tax services
- Review or prepare financial statements, schedules, reports, journal entries, fixed asset schedules, payroll, and other general accounting functions
- Consult with clients on accounting, tax, and business matters, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, cash management, debt management, sales and use tax, and regulatory filings
- Review staff work and provide feedback to ensure accuracy and support professional development
- Research and document technical accounting and tax issues
- Coordinate preparation of income, payroll, sales and use tax, and business license filings
- Oversee or assist with client invoicing, accounts payable processing, and ACH transactions
- Analyze financial data, identify trends, and prepare reports for strategic decision-making
- Track hours by client and project daily
- Develop and maintain internal systems, processes, and quality controls
- Manage budgeting, financial projections, profitability analysis, cash flow modeling, internal control reviews, and tax planning projects
- Oversee, coordinate, and review assigned client activities performed by other staff
- Mentor and coach client accounting team members
- Monitor and manage client engagement deadlines, closings, payroll cycles, tax filings, and special projects
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- At least 2+ years in a Controller role with direct supervisory experience
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
- CPA firm experience is a plus
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and other cloud-based accounting platforms preferred
- Experience with nonprofit accounting is a plus
- Strong accounting and financial knowledge, including expertise in reconciliations, monthly close, financial statement preparation, and compliance standards
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex client engagements
- Ability to manage team performance through coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations
- Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly and persuasively to senior management and client stakeholders
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to balance multiple priorities with precision and attention to detail
- Ability to leverage technology and digital tools
