Job Description
Data Engineer designing secure AWS GovCloud architectures and pipelines. Supporting GDIT’s mission-critical U.S. government, defense, and intelligence technology services.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, deploy, and maintain data architectures and databases in the AWS GovCloud environment
- Develop, construct, test, and maintain high-performance, scalable, and stable data architectures
- Migrate data from on-premises databases to cloud-based solutions and transform data as required
- Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and build new API integrations
- Ensure data pipelines are scalable, repeatable, and secure
- Implement and manage databases and data delivery systems
- Transform data into insights, analysis, and reporting
- Identify, research, design, develop, and promote solutions that improve the modern development environment
- Implement data extraction, data load, and database synchronization ETL routines and functions
- Implement data governance and quality controls
- Monitor ETL/ELT jobs, troubleshoot issues, and halt potential problems
- Improve system performance through testing, troubleshooting, and integration of new elements
- Ensure data platform solutions meet confidentiality and privacy requirements
- Collaborate with data scientists, architects, engineers, administrators, and other stakeholders
- Design, model, document, and guide logical and conceptual data and database changes
- Document data architecture and systems for technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost assessments, and risk assessments
Requirements:
- Active Secret clearance required
- US Citizenship required
- 10+ years of prior Data engineering experience
- Experience implementing data warehousing concepts and ETL processes and tools such as Pentaho
- Experience developing and administering PostgreSQL
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with other querying languages
- Experience decomposing Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures and triggers for migration to Amazon Aurora DB, Postgres, or MySQL
- Hands-on expertise in data modeling, schema design, and database optimization
- Knowledge of data security and compliance best practices
- Experience with GitLab, Liquibase, and CI/CD pipelines highly preferred
- Experience with big data technologies such as Apache Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Debezium, and RabbitMQ
- Demonstrated experience in network and cyber security design, engineering, and operations, with emphasis on Navy capabilities
- Prior Navy experience
- Experience with cloud data services such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Experience with Cloud Relational Database Services such as AWS RDS and Aurora DB
- SAFe experience and knowledge
- Experience with data warehousing and Business Intelligence tools such as RedShift, MicroStrategy, and Erwin Data Modeler
- Experience with Python, Java, Scala, or Go
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- 8570/8140 - IAT II CompTIA Security+ CE certification required
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Data Engineer, similar cloud environment certification, Oracle Database Certified Associate, or equivalent database certification; if not held upon applying, must obtain within 3 months of start
