Job Description

Data warehouse architect designing scalable lakehouse and analytics infrastructure for Virtru’s secure data-sharing platform. Leading SRE, technical architecture, and engineering mentorship.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead system design and architecture reviews for scaled data warehouses and web-scale data analytics applications
  • Design and deploy data and AI analytics applications to cloud environments at scale
  • Create and maintain architectural documentation, including Architecture Decision Records
  • Design data lakehouses, data models, and integration patterns for databases and data as a service
  • Provide technical direction for scaling complex data storage, processing, and deployment initiatives
  • Apply DevSecOps, AIOps, and MLOps practices
  • Monitor and improve technical debt related to data storage, processing, and site reliability
  • Define technical health metrics and streamline technical onboarding with Engineering Managers
  • Drive reliability, performance, security, sustainable engineering, and code quality practices
  • Break complex technical tasks into manageable deliverables
  • Guide teams on data access, storage, deployment architecture, and development practices
  • Coach and mentor engineers on data warehouse, processing, and SRE architecture
  • Contribute high-quality code to critical or complex components
  • Assist SRE teams with stability, automation, and scalability
  • Conduct architecture-focused code reviews
  • Support engineering hiring and technical assessments
  • Partner with Engineering Managers, product management, UX, and other technical architects
  • Resolve cross-team dependencies and align technical roadmaps with product and business priorities
  • Own the lifecycle and toolchain of data components from design through deployment
  • Balance hands-on technical implementation with architectural responsibilities
  • Build software impacting data privacy

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 7 years of data warehouse, database, or data processing and analytics experience
  • Proven experience in architectural or technical leadership roles
  • Strong knowledge of cloud data warehouses, including BigQuery, Redshift, Synapse, and Snowflake
  • Strong experience with lakehouse platforms, including Apache Iceberg, Databricks, Delta Lake, or Hudi
  • Deep understanding of Kimball, Data Vault, or dimensional data modeling
  • Experience with Parquet or ORC columnar storage formats
  • Strong knowledge of batch and stream processing architectures
  • Experience deploying AI analytics at scale
  • Knowledge of SRE principles and practices
  • Experience with Terraform infrastructure as code
  • Proficiency in containerization and orchestration with Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar monitoring and observability tools
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Experience leading architectural design and technical direction for engineering teams
  • Ability to influence without authority and drive technical decisions across teams
  • Technical mentoring and coaching experience
  • Experience creating architectural documentation, design documents, and technical specifications
  • Track record of improving technical health metrics and reducing technical debt
  • Experience with cross-team collaboration and dependency management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Experience with stakeholder management and aligning technical decisions with business context
  • Ability to collaborate, adapt to shifting priorities, and communicate asynchronously
