Job Description

Expat Tax Advisor preparing U.S. tax returns for Americans abroad at H&R Block. Advising international clients through a virtual tax platform and supporting tax planning and audits.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct tax interviews and analyze international tax issues to prepare complete and accurate tax returns for U.S. taxpayer clients based in assigned countries or country groupings
  • Follow internal guidelines for review and referral of tax returns
  • Provide tax information and feedback to clients regarding tax preparation and refer unresolved concerns to management
  • Work with client service professional staff to finalize tax returns and instruct clients on electronic or mailed filing with the Internal Revenue Service or State Department of Revenue
  • Research unclear tax issues using internal resources
  • Attend paid initial training and ongoing company continuing education
  • Develop knowledge of foreign tax and financial systems in assigned countries to enhance client experience
  • Read business and tax publications as recommended by management
  • Assist in transitioning acquired clients to the H&R Block brand
  • Use global experience, education, or insights to build rapport and provide well-rounded client service
  • Seek new clients through referrals and develop and execute client acquisition plans
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience
  • Ability to communicate tax and financial advice clearly and effectively with the public in a variety of situations, including public speaking engagements
  • Ability to learn quickly and ask questions
  • Ability to serve clients remotely using virtual tools and systems
  • Circular 230 credentials (Enrolled Agent, CPA, or Attorney) or willingness to obtain within one year of employment
  • Effective time management skills, including handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and managing time effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • 1 year minimum related work experience
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Prior international tax experience
