Job Description

Full-Stack Engineer building React and Node.js/TypeScript features for Acely’s AI-powered SAT and ACT tutoring platform. Owning student-facing product development from scoping through production.

Responsibilities:

  • Build student-facing features end to end across the React front-end and Node.js/TypeScript back-end, from initial scoping through production and iteration.
  • Own work through design review, testing, release quality, and post-deployment outcomes.
  • Shape the product by partnering with Product and Design to evaluate ideas, identify trade-offs, and propose better approaches.
  • Improve testing, QA, and release practices while maintaining speed and quality.
  • Contribute to engineering practices and tooling.
  • Collaborate with a small, senior team through open code reviews and technical decisions.
  • Contribute across infrastructure, data questions, and other areas where impact is possible.

Requirements:

  • Strong production experience with React, Node.js, and TypeScript, with a track record of shipping and maintaining real user-facing software.
  • Genuine full-stack range: comfortable moving between UI work, API design, and data modeling in the same week.
  • Demonstrated ability to scope your own work, take an ambiguous problem, break it down, communicate the plan, and execute it.
  • Strong judgment about quality and trade-offs, knowing when something needs to be done properly and when shipping today is the right call.
  • Clear communicator who works well with non-engineers and can explain technical decisions to Product, Design, and Marketing.
  • Fluency with modern AI-assisted development workflows as part of day-to-day engineering practice.
  • Care about students, craft, and the team.
  • US-based and able to work as a full-time employee.
  • Not required, but a strong plus: basic infrastructure and DevOps experience, including CI/CD, deployments, and observability.
  • Not required, but a strong plus: experience with document and relational databases, especially MongoDB and Postgres.
  • Not required, but a strong plus: experience at a larger or AI-native engineering organization.
  • Not required, but a strong plus: experience with experimentation and A/B testing, payments, or analytics instrumentation.
  • Not required, but a strong plus: comfort with ambiguity and wearing multiple hats in a fast-paced startup.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary ($160k - $190k based on experience) + equity
  • Remote-first (with optional quarterly SF meetups)
  • Full health benefits (medical, dental, vision)
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Flexible PTO + company holidays
  • Professional development budget
  • Home office stipend
  • Wellness resources
  • Monthly hackathons
