Job Description
Analyst/Appraiser managing valuations for Machinery & Equipment in Western Canada. Responsible for data entry, analysis, and client interactions following USPAP standards.
Responsibilities:
- Participates in on-the-job training to learn fundamental Machinery & Equipment terminology, concepts, practices, and procedures to conduct a typical Machinery & Equipment valuation engagement.
- Reviews previously performed models and completed appraisal reports to gain an understanding of the valuation process and concepts.
- Uses and applies internal models to appraise various industries and projects.
- Determine the proper questions to ask in interviews in order to obtain relevant information for appraising needs consistent with guidelines and procedures.
- Conduct on-site interviews or telephone interviews to become familiar with a company’s operations, control and management procedures, inventory makeup, and factors that will affect inventory values.
- Participates in travel for job inspections, and/or client meetings with or without another Analyst or Appraiser, including taking photographs of assets during site inspections and providing notes and equipment listings.
- Maintain a working knowledge of what to look for in the inspection process and how to collect the information needed to conduct an inventory appraisal.
- Document inspection notes properly.
- Proactively identify any challenges with values up front and communicate issues/concerns to the client and Business Development Officer well in advance of the final report issuance.
- Measure the financial performance and operational metrics of appraised companies, including detailed inventory and sales analysis, expenses structures, seasonality trends, inventory turnover, and gross margin analysis.
- Review and contribute to the narrative of appraisal reports.
- May participate in project reviews with senior management.
- Communicates directly with all clients and uphold a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Confidently and concisely communicate to a company and/or client the rationale for changes in value or defend values for a new appraisal.
- Learns and adheres to USPAP standards, as they apply to Machinery & Equipment valuations.
- Maintain the Gordon Brothers’ Appraisal Application database to ensure accurate and timely contact, company, and project information.
- Uphold Gordon Brothers’ Core Values and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the strategic plan.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with a concentration in business, finance, supply chain or operations management preferred; or relevant working experience.
- Two or more years previous work experience, preferably in a manufacturing, warehouse, or other industrial environment.
- Advance proficiency with MS Excel and MS Word required; working knowledge of MS PowerPoint preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Maintaining a high degree of integrity and business acumen is required.
- Demonstrated analytical, presentation, and project management skills are desired.
- Use of problem-solving capabilities to look in-depth at information pertaining to a job is required.
- Demonstrated ability to spread historical financial statement data, including income statement and balance sheet is preferred.
- Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment is essential.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with close attention to detail.
- Must be willing to travel up to 25%, some overnight, for site inspections. Site inspections may require moderate physical activity including walking, bending, reaching, and/or climbing to access and visually inspect equipment.
