Job Description
Network Engineer supporting Varian’s Azure-based public, private, and hybrid cloud infrastructure. Troubleshooting connectivity, security, and application delivery for Siemens Healthineers’ healthcare technology services.
Responsibilities:
- Provide network operations and support for Varian’s FullScale Infinity Cloud solutions across private, public, and hybrid infrastructure, network, and security
- Lead network onboarding for FSIC-designed products while adhering to FSIC configuration standards
- Maintain strong knowledge of Varian’s application suite
- Configure cloud solutions including monitoring, application access, security, Citrix NetScaler, Citrix ADC, and Palo Alto Networks
- Configure and support ExpressRoute backbone connections, direct connections, and VPN architecture
- Maintain IP CIDR block allocation and modify networks, subnets, VLANs, and routes
- Verify and act on events from network monitoring tools and Web Application Firewall tools
- Troubleshoot issues and determine root causes
- Collaborate to resolve network outages and customer-impacting issues
- Contribute to successful project execution
- Create, update, and complete documentation
- Investigate incident root causes and produce follow-up reports
- Collaborate with network engineers to improve operations, security, and work practices
- Provide the highest level of customer service
- Escalate support requests to vendors, telecommunications carriers, and service providers urgently when required
- Apply network updates, patches, and configuration changes
- Plan network layouts and configure systems for user environments
- Mentor colleagues as necessary
- Complete assigned Learning Management System courses
- Provide on-call support as required
- Work North American business hours
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s or preferably Master’s Degree in computer science is required plus three years’ minimum relevant experience
- Varian FSIC, TPASS and CloudPlanner infrastructure product knowledge
- Strong knowledge of Varian’s suite of applications
- Extensive experience supporting and managing networks in enterprise public, private, and hybrid cloud environments, preferably supporting large multi-subscription Microsoft Azure estates
- Advanced hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure networking, including VNets, subnets, VNet peering, UDRs, NSGs, network interfaces, NAT, DNS, and cross-subscription connectivity
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, addressing, subnetting, CIDR, DNS, LDAP/LDAPS, Kerberos, RPC, routing, and return-path validation
- Strong routing and switching expertise, including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, VLANs, STP, Layer 2/3 concepts, route propagation, path selection, redundancy, convergence, and failover
- Hands-on experience designing, configuring, and troubleshooting Azure ExpressRoute connectivity
- Hands-on experience designing and troubleshooting site-to-site IPsec VPNs
- Advanced hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls and PAN-OS lifecycle management
- Experience using centralized next-hop routing through virtual firewalls
- Hands-on experience with Citrix NetScaler/ADC
- Experience validating end-to-end application delivery
- Strong network security knowledge, including firewall policy, IDS/IPS, ACLs, PKI, SSL/TLS, certificate chains, URL filtering, vulnerability remediation, and security hardening
- Advanced network performance and root-cause analysis skills using Wireshark, firewall captures, tcpdump, iperf, or SolarWinds
- Experience troubleshooting business-critical and highly available applications
- Experience supporting network monitoring, observability, and SIEM integrations, including Microsoft Sentinel
- Experience implementing and troubleshooting Active Directory integrations and one-way domain trusts
- Experience working with customer IT teams, telecommunications carriers, exchange/service providers, and technology vendors
- Ability to develop customer-specific connectivity and ACL documentation
- Experience creating and maintaining cloud and network architecture documentation, Microsoft Visio or Lucidchart diagrams, as-built documents, operating procedures, implementation notes, configuration templates, troubleshooting guides, upgrade-validation procedures, and change-validation or rollback steps
- Experience reviewing vulnerability findings and validating network software upgrades, patches, content updates, configuration changes, and policy updates
- Strong incident, problem, and change management experience
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a senior technical escalation resource and mentor colleagues
- Ability to provide on-call support as required and work North American business hours
- Desired: Azure Network Engineer Associate certification
- Desired: Azure Administrator Associate certification
- Desired: Palo Alto Networks certification or equivalent advanced PAN-OS experience
- Desired: Citrix NetScaler/ADC and Citrix ADM/Insights experience
- Desired: Experience with telecommunications and exchange providers
- Desired: Experience with non-standard hybrid network solutions
- Desired: Experience with Azure Service Bus, Azure App Service, and application connectivity across subscriptions
- Desired: Experience with Microsoft Sentinel, Qualys, SIEM, syslog, and security-tool integrations
- Desired: Experience with enterprise certificate authorities such as DigiCert
- Desired: Experience with Citrix XenApp, StoreFront, Virtual Delivery Agents, RDP, and associated application-delivery dependencies
- Desired: Knowledge of DICOM and HL7 standards
- Desired: Advanced Active Directory, Windows Server, Hyper-V, VMware/vSphere, and systems-management concepts
- Desired: Advanced Azure IaaS administration and automation or scripting using PowerShell, JSON, ARM templates, APIs, or Python
