Job Description

Patient Financial Counselor resolving patient payments and billing issues for Banyan Treatment Centers’ addiction and mental health programs. Supporting accurate accounts receivable and compassionate financial guidance remotely.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect patient responsibility payments, including deductibles, copays, and coinsurance
  • Contact patients and authorized family members to resolve outstanding balances
  • Explain financial responsibility, private-pay pricing, and financial terms
  • Set up reasonable payment plans when appropriate
  • Review and manage accounts receivable to verify accuracy and work balances
  • Research and resolve billing inquiries and account questions
  • Document actions taken to reconcile balances and support payment resolution
  • Identify account discrepancies, including adjustments, write-offs, overpayments, and refunds
  • Coordinate with Intake to obtain signed financial documentation
  • Verify and update patient demographics and registration information
  • Provide professional customer service to patients and insurance representatives
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with federal and state regulations, patient privacy laws, and Banyan policies
  • Report to the Patient Relations Manager and collaborate with Intake and Finance teams

Requirements:

  • Associate degree required; Bachelor’s preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of patient account resolution experience; behavioral healthcare strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of insurance benefit terms and patient financial responsibility
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a patient-centered approach
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Familiarity with EHR systems; CollaborateMD, Salesforce, and Kipu preferred
  • Knowledge of revenue cycle processes; behavioral health preferred
  • Must be able to work EST hours
