Job Description

Remote Patient Financial Counselor helping Hanger orthotic and prosthetic patients navigate insurance, billing, collections, and payment arrangements. Verifying coverage and coordinating financial processes with clinics.

Responsibilities:

  • Educate and assist patients with informed decisions about healthcare payment options and financial arrangements
  • Determine and verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility for financial assistance programs
  • Manage financial processes involving scheduling, billing, and collections
  • Communicate with patients and insurance companies by phone or fax
  • Coordinate patient care with clinics
  • Document and report payment information accurately and promptly
  • Verify accounts are ready for billing with adequate supporting documentation within established time frames
  • Educate patients about payment options and financial assistance
  • Negotiate and strategize patient payment arrangements
  • Update patient accounts and balances
  • Collect patient payments over the phone
  • Review and process patient and insurance company forms
  • Follow policies and procedures regarding financial screening, arrangements, and third-party demands
  • Promote Hanger's values

Requirements:

  • Requires less than 1 year of related experience
  • Minimum good fit for the job, as determined by the Talent Bullseye assessment; Hanger will administer the Talent Bullseye as part of the selection process
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize duties/tasks in a fast paced working environment
  • Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to follow written and verbal directions
  • Resourceful and flexible team player who excels at building trusting relationships with patients, referral sources and colleagues
  • General knowledge of HIPAA and other medical insurance regulations and terminology
  • Working knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, HCPC/CPT and other coding
  • Knowledge of FDCPA
  • Proficient computer software, such as MS Word, Excel, and automated billing systems
  • Able to use office equipment such as facsimile machines, calculators, postage machines, copiers, etc.
  • Familiarity with general medical terminology
  • Understanding of state, federal and regional collection and reimbursement laws
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude
  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, and be attentive to detail
  • Proficiency with basic math and accounting skills
