Job Description
Project Engineer coordinating design, construction, commissioning, and performance of utility-scale battery storage and solar projects. Supporting EPC, engineering, O&M, and asset management partners.
Responsibilities:
- Support Senior Project Engineers working with EPC partners, transmission providers, IOUs, and off-take customers
- Ensure successful construction, commissioning, and operation of utility-scale battery energy storage systems and solar projects
- Engage and coordinate across project design, installation, and commissioning stages
- Lead and review technical documentation, including site studies, reports, permits, contracts, drawings, models, bills of materials, and scopes of work
- Develop specifications, contracts, and document control structures
- Manage workflows of third-party Owner’s Engineers
- Manage technical needs throughout project development and design, including system design, regulatory compliance, permitting, and construction support
- Coordinate external engineering consultants, surveyors, specialized professionals, and suppliers
- Review conceptual ESS and solar designs, major components, equipment layouts, and single-line diagrams
- Prepare contractor bid packages
- Lead technical tasks for EPC agreements and potential project acquisition reviews
- Lead and supervise site visits, testing, commissioning, and start-up of constructed power plants
- Contribute to proposals for BESS and solar projects
- Manage battery and solar performance requirements with O&M providers and optimizer partners
- Coordinate with Asset Management to enhance resource performance
- Act as primary point of contact with equipment vendors
- Maintain continuous improvements in project designs, plans, processes, and product development
- Lead and supervise testing, operation, and maintenance activities
- Manage technical obligations under PPAs
- Coordinate internal and external subject-matter resources for risk reduction
- Perform other assigned duties and special projects
Requirements:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 7+ years of professional engineering experience in the utility scale battery energy storage system and solar industry
- Relevant work experience in the design and development of utility scale solar and battery storage power plants
- Experience with AutoCAD (or equivalent)
- Experience with photovoltaic performance modeling tools
- Experience with analysis tools for ESS operation
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code, NFPA, and IEEE
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Gantt charts (MS Project or equivalent)
- Strong in Microsoft Office Suite
- Previous experience managing projects from initial design to installation and execution is preferred
- Authorization to work in the United States before joining; no sponsorship or sponsorship assistance available
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in post-NTP execution of utility-scale solar or BESS projects, including construction and commissioning
- Experience reviewing IFC drawings and construction submittals
- Experience working on projects >=50MW (solar) and >=50MW
