Job Description
Senior Backend Engineer building scalable Go services for refurbed, a European refurbished-products marketplace. Designing APIs, operating production systems, and delivering marketplace features with cross-functional squads.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain core APIs and backend services
- Own operations and monitoring of production systems
- Integrate third-party systems and APIs into the platform
- Own design and implementation of new features and services
- Identify best practices and create or suggest engineering standards
- Document and demonstrate solutions through documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear code
- Mentor junior colleagues and onboard new joiners
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions
- Offer insights and present achievements and results in relevant meetings
- Occasionally propagate backend changes to frontend
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience designing and building scalable backend services in a modern production environment
- Strong proficiency in Go
- Deep understanding of distributed systems and service-oriented architecture
- Proficiency in SQL and relational database design
- General frontend knowledge and ability to perform basic tasks in frontend applications
- Strong ownership, initiative, and ability to quickly learn and navigate complex systems
- Clear, direct, and respectful communication
- Excellent English skills
- Based in a European time zone
- Curious and eager to experiment with new software development approaches, frameworks, AI tools, or practices
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience is desired
- Based in Europe (including UK) only
- Valid right to work
