Job Description
Senior Data Engineer building clinical data pipelines and cloud applications for Providence’s healthcare system. Supporting data-driven operations with modern engineering, analytics, and AI technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze clinical data using health care and database management knowledge
- Identify and report clinical data trends
- Design and build modern data-centric software applications supporting clinical and operational processes across the healthcare system
- Build data pipelines, transformations, data enrichment processes, provisioning layers, and user interfaces
- Leverage cloud computing, big data, data science, and modern software development methodologies and frameworks
- Mentor and assist less experienced Data Engineers
- Participate in research and development of new technologies
- Establish repeatable processes or templates for Data Engineers
- Promote collaboration, meticulous source control, and documentation
- Develop simple solutions to complex problems using modern and emerging methods and tools
- Work closely with Product, Platform, and Architecture teams on joint efforts
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering
- 5 or more years of experience as a Senior Data Engineer
- Preferred: Master's degree in computer engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering
- Preferred: 8 years of data development experience
- Preferred: Advanced Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Flink, and NoSQL platforms
- Preferred: Advanced SQL, Python, and Linux-based processing
- Preferred: OLAP and cloud data warehousing, including Snowflake, Synapse, Redshift, BigQuery, and dimensional models
- Preferred: Unstructured and multimodal data engineering, including EHR/EMR, HL7, FHIR, APIs, and clinical notes
- Preferred: Modern application development frameworks, including FastAPI and Flask
- Preferred: Modern ETL/ELT tooling, including ADF, Glue, Airflow, dbt, NiFi, Informatica, and Fivetran
- Preferred: AI/ML, LLM, and prompt engineering, including LLM pipelines, RAG, LangChain/LlamaIndex, embeddings, and vector databases
