Job Description
Senior Database Engineer managing GCP and Azure database platforms for Porch Group’s home services software and insurance business. Driving modernization, reliability, performance, and disaster recovery.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and manage data architectures and database platforms across GCP and Azure
- Collaborate with software, systems, DevOps, business, analytics, software, and data science teams
- Influence architecture of key data platforms while balancing operational excellence, security, reliability, performance, and cost
- Contribute to technology roadmaps and architectural improvements for InfoSec, data platforms, and disaster recovery/business continuity
- Migrate and transform data stores for strategic projects
- Support day-to-day data-system operations and information-security initiatives
- Define, sustain, and implement data engineering processes and best practices
- Tune, maintain, and optimize production database systems
- Build and maintain a self-healing database platform using AI-based observability and monitoring tools
- Support modernization and centralization of the database footprint
- Provide database operations support for SQL Server and PostgreSQL, including SQL scripting, database objects, and troubleshooting
- Manage, patch, upgrade, and monitor PostgreSQL and SQL Server databases on GCP and Azure
- Configure and manage backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery
- Design, manage, and monitor BigQuery data warehouse schemas, queries, and cost/slot usage
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Support CI/CD workflows for database changes, ADF pipelines, and infrastructure deployments
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Systems Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering and/or database administration, with hands-on ownership of production database platforms
- Proficiency in creating data structures and understanding of technical design principles
- Hands-on experience with BigQuery, Compute Engine, and Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL and SQL Server) in GCP
- Hands-on experience with Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure SQL Database, and/or SQL Server on Azure VMs
- Experience with high availability, disaster recovery, backup/restore, and performance tuning
- Working knowledge of version control and CI/CD tooling, including Git, Azure DevOps, and Cloud Build
- Working knowledge of Azure Data Factory, SSIS/SSRS in Azure, and Dataflow/Dataproc in GCP
- Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and partners
- Experience working with Agile or similar methodologies preferred
- Experience supporting AI/ML platforms and integrating AI-powered data tools
- Unix scripting experience required
- Proven experience working with US-based business teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to work within core US business hours / Eastern Standard Time overlap
- 8 working hours excluding breaks, including 4 core US hours overlap from 7:30pm–11:30pm IST and 4 flexible hours
