Job Description
Senior Workers’ Compensation Claims Specialist managing complex California claims for National Interstate, a commercial transportation insurer. Fully remote from the USA, handling investigations, settlements, reserves, and litigation matters.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a large inventory of highly complex claims to evaluate compensability and liability
- Lead comprehensive claims investigations to confirm coverage and determine liability, compensability, and damages
- Analyze and negotiate claim settlements and reserves within prescribed authority
- Attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials as needed
- Convey complex coverage and settlement information to insureds, claimants, and external partners
- Authorize payments within assigned authority limits and ensure timely disbursement
- Maintain accurate and detailed claim files, including correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements
- Potentially coach staff and participate in talent selection, development, and performance management decisions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience
- Generally, a minimum of 13 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling
- Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC)
- Prefer CA Work Comp Experience
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Expert knowledge of insurance policies, coverage, and claims handling procedures
- Knowledge of industry laws and regulations
- Advanced ability to organize and prioritize caseloads
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to build relationships and lead negotiations
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Recognized as a subject matter expert within the company, potentially operating at a peer level to management
