Job Description
Staff Accountant and Data Analyst supporting Osceola Medical Center's hospital finance and business intelligence. Building reports, dashboards, forecasts, and KPIs for data-driven healthcare decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Support the hospital's financial operations through general accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, account reconciliations, and data analytics
- Prepare and record journal entries
- Perform monthly account and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities
- Reconcile bank accounts and cash activity
- Assist with fixed asset accounting, depreciation schedules, prepaid expenses, and accrual schedules
- Prepare assigned sales tax, payroll tax, and other required filings
- Support external financial audits and cost report preparation
- Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, financial models, cash flow forecasting, and financial projections
- Analyze financial performance, trends, variances, departmental expenses, patient volumes, payer mix, reimbursement, and revenue cycle performance
- Develop dashboards, reports, KPIs, and standardized reporting processes using Power BI, Excel, SQL, or other reporting tools
- Analyze operational, financial, and clinical data to identify improvement opportunities
- Monitor productivity metrics and benchmark performance
- Validate data accuracy and integrity across accounting, payroll, EHR, and revenue cycle systems
- Automate recurring reports
- Maintain financial databases and reporting systems
- Collaborate with Finance, Revenue Cycle, Human Resources, department leaders, auditors, and other stakeholders
- Monitor internal controls and recommend improvements
- Ensure compliance with GAAP
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or related field required
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred
- Healthcare accounting experience preferred
- Critical Access Hospital or rural healthcare experience preferred
- Experience with business intelligence reporting preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Understanding of healthcare reimbursement and hospital finance
- Experience with Medicare cost reporting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, Power Query, Power Pivot, and advanced formulas
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI, SQL, and data visualization tools
- Knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems
- Ability to analyze large data sets and present actionable insights
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods and work at a computer
- Ability to type, perform data entry, and operate office equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and via video conferencing
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry office materials weighing up to 15–20 pounds
- Ability to maintain concentration and attention to detail for extended periods
- Visual ability to read printed documents and computer screens, with or without reasonable accommodation
