Job Description

Staff Data Engineer setting direction for Eve’s Snowflake and dbt data platform. Building secure, reliable infrastructure for AI-powered plaintiff law firm workflows.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the role-based access model, including role hierarchy, least-privilege grants, and scoped access for service accounts, BI tools, and AI agents
  • Manage grants as code and run the access review cycle
  • Own Snowflake administration, including security and network policies, data masking, PII controls, storage organization, compute cost, and retention
  • Extend the medallion architecture and Terraform-managed footprint, including state, module design, and environment promotion
  • Own ingestion through Fivetran, third-party connectors, and custom extraction
  • Own orchestration across dbt Platform and GitHub Actions, materialization strategy, model performance, incremental patterns, and latency reduction
  • Build source-schema change detection and establish observability with freshness SLAs, alerting, drift detection, and incident ownership
  • Contribute to foundational modeling: source-to-staging patterns, conformed dimensions, shared entities, and SCD patterns
  • Define dbt project architecture, Git-based development workflow, CI, testing standards, macro and package libraries, and isolated development environments
  • Partner on data retention and customer data handling policy and implement technical controls
  • Establish AI-assisted development practices using Claude Code skills, agents, and evals
  • Build tooling and setup to make new engineers and analysts productive quickly
  • Document systems and processes
  • Mentor engineers and analysts and set the technical bar for data engineering
  • Set technical direction for a data platform handling product usage, case and firm data, go-to-market systems, and AI-agent queries
  • Report to the Head of Data Engineering on the central data team

Requirements:

  • 8+ years in data engineering, including time at a staff or senior IC level setting technical direction others followed
  • Deep Snowflake administration, especially designing a role-based access model from scratch: role hierarchy, least-privilege grants, and scoping access for service accounts and tools
  • Experience with masking, PII controls, and cost management
  • Strong Python and SQL
  • Production experience across ingestion (Fivetran or similar), orchestration (dbt platform, GitHub Actions, or Airflow), and cloud infrastructure
  • Advanced dbt: modeling patterns, macros, incremental models, testing, and slim or state-based CI
  • Experience building SCD tables from multiple sources
  • Experience building the dbt developer experience for contributors outside a core engineering team
  • Experience with layered warehouse architecture (medallion or equivalent)
  • Experience managing infrastructure as code with Terraform, including state and environment promotion
  • Experience building an access and governance layer that passed an audit
  • Track record building reliability practice from zero: freshness SLAs, alerting, incident response, and schema change detection
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development such as Claude Code, including agentic pipeline design and skill-based workflows
  • Comfort integrating tools via MCP servers
  • Strong communication, mentoring, and comfort building where the playbook does not exist yet

Benefits:

  • Competitive Salary & Equity
  • 401(k) Program with Employer Matching
  • Health, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance
  • Short Term and Long Term Disability
  • Commuter Benefits (in office employees only)
  • Autonomous Work Environment
