Job Description

Verification Scientist auditing forestry and land-use carbon projects for SCS Global Services, a sustainability standards and certification company. Reviewing models, GIS data, field measurements, client documentation, and verification reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments and lead audits under voluntary and compliance carbon offset standards
  • Assess management practices and project documentation for carbon projects
  • Review documents and perform quantitative analyses, including inventory calculations, forest growth and yield models, GIS, and remote sensing information
  • Conduct site visits, interviews, forest reconnaissance, and evaluation of forest inventory practices
  • Issue verification findings and write technical audit reports
  • Oversee contract auditors and consultants
  • Coordinate audit processes with clients and obtain required data and information
  • Respond to client questions and concerns while maintaining customer satisfaction
  • Manage a concurrent portfolio of audits with support and supervision
  • Maintain knowledge of program standards and protocols and recommend program changes for ISO compliance
  • Participate in internal and external audits and auditor training

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Forestry or a relevant scientific field
  • 2+ years of professional experience in a related field
  • Experience applying standard forest inventory techniques in the field
  • Experience applying field measurement techniques
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS and/or remote sensing applications
  • Exceptional quantitative skills
  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Access
  • Initiative and ability to work independently under pressure in a changing environment
  • Responsive and adaptive to a team environment
  • Ability to travel domestically to conduct audits
  • Master's Degree or higher in a relevant scientific field preferred
  • Preferred experience with biometrics, statistics, growth and yield modeling, financial analysis, and/or natural resource economics
  • California Registered Professional Forester, other Certified Forester credential, ARB-accredited Lead Verifier, or CAR Lead Verifier preferred
