Job Description
Advanced Staff Thermal Systems Engineer leading thermal architectures, requirements, and multidisciplinary development programs. Supporting GE Aerospace’s aerospace products from technical execution through production transition.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and own program architecture and technical approach
- Lead technical development projects in cooperation with Program Management
- Serve as technical lead for programs and coordinate activities with internal engineers, vendors, and contractors
- Identify and manage technical risks with the Program Manager
- Manage technical requirements through traceability, decomposition, derivation, verification, and validation
- Allocate and decompose high-level requirements into lower-level specifications for functional groups, components, and suppliers
- Lead and mentor junior staff and contribute to development of the technical team
- Serve as a technical leader contributing to engineering strategy and team growth
- Research and recommend investments or changes in technology, toolsets, procedures, equipment, and systems
- Communicate and collaborate with customers and suppliers during design development
- Review and approve documentation for transition from prototype to production
- Provide engineering support to troubleshoot and diagnose non-performing products, including RCCA and lessons learned
- Serve as primary technical point of contact for clients
- Manage a multidisciplinary project team of thermal analysis, installation, mechanical design and analysis, reliability, controls, electronics, software, and testing subject matter experts
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Systems Engineering, preferably within Thermal Management Systems
- Working knowledge of aerospace technical disciplines including requirements management, technical verification and validation methodologies, mechanical design, materials, modeling/documentation, structural analysis, thermal fluid sciences, electrical systems, system controls, embedded controls, development testing and analysis, and qualification analysis and testing
- Understanding of aerospace requirements management methodologies and processes, including traceability, decomposition, derivation, verification, and validation
- Functional understanding of major aircraft systems, including environmental control systems, powerplant, electrical, hydraulics, controls, avionics, power generation, and structures
- Experience with Vapor Cycle Systems, Liquid Cooling Systems and/or Air Cycle Systems
- Experience with standard components in VCS, LCS, and ACS such as heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, valves, motor and motor controllers, and water collectors/separators
- Familiarity with environmental testing and qualification methods such as MIL-STD-810 and DO-160
- Experience with requirements management tools and model-based systems engineering tools and processes
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
- Demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects
- Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
- Established project management skills
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must prove U.S. Person status: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, or granted asylee/refugee status
