Job Description
Assistant Buyer managing luxury accessories orders, vendor partnerships, and inventory analysis for Saks Global. Supporting market preparation, assortments, markdowns, allocations, and in-season decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in vendor selections and partnerships
- Provide information for monitoring inventory productivity and analyzing vendor profitability
- Provide data and analysis for price changes and assist with entering price changes online
- Liaise with Buyers, Associate Buyers, and brand partners to gather and confirm order details
- Manage updates to buy sheets and resolve order discrepancies
- Oversee offshore Merchandise Assistants' creation and transmission of purchase orders
- Ensure timely delivery and accuracy of purchase order details
- Oversee communication between Merchandise Assistants and brand partners, resolving or escalating issues
- Provide allocation direction to the Planning Allocation team and help manage allocations for high-touch categories such as Designer
- Manage communication of receipt flow changes and ensure purchase orders accurately reflect ship windows, order quantities, and on-order
- Prepare Buyers for Market with historical performance insights, emerging trends, and customer preferences
- Coordinate market appointments and periodically attend the New York market
- Support Buyer style-out sessions by coordinating logistics and preparing assortment presentation insights
- Initiate strategic product assortments to drive sales and brand growth
- Act as primary point of contact for execution questions and feedback from cross-functional partners and brand partners
- Review business performance with Assistant Planners and communicate bottoms-up style insights to Buyers
- Recommend in-season actions and help prepare for monthly OTB
- Manage markdown cadence and oversee offshore execution of price changes and RTVs
- Collaborate with offshore reporting teams to generate custom Buying reports and maintain reporting views and delivery timelines
Requirements:
- Manages ambiguity well, self starter, and is able to thrive in a fast paced environment
- Strong accountability, and ability to multitask and prioritize independently
- Generates a variety of approaches to problem solving quickly including new and novel ideas
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to be both direct and diplomatic and gain trust quickly
- Proven track record in driving positive outcomes through objectives and measures within a large complex organization
- Open to new perspectives and willing to try new ways of working
- Strong knowledge of retail math concepts, including markup, margin planning, open to buy, and inventory productivity measures (WOS, T/O, GMROI)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Sheets/Docs/Slides
- Proficiency in RFS, AMS, PCW, and NuOrder systems
- 1–2 years' experience as an Assistant Buyer, preferably in a major department store
