Job Description
BI Developer building Power BI dashboards, DAX metrics, and semantic models for West Virginia University Health System. Improving clinical data reporting and business decisions through governed analytics.
Responsibilities:
- Design, innovate, and implement solutions to improve systems and processes
- Advocate for customers, understand business needs, and identify improvement and productivity opportunities
- Assess analytical needs and determine appropriate actions
- Manage relationships across project teams and facilitate optimal solutions
- Maintain understanding of database structures and business intelligence tools to create analytical solutions
- Serve as the first point of contact for data analytics and process improvement
- Perform data analysis and create queries, programs, and automation
- Ensure reported data is meaningful and accurate using analytical methods
- Use Tableau, Microsoft Office Suite, SAP products, Power BI, and Microsoft Fabric
- Lead data requirements gathering for problem identification, resolution, and solution design
- Provide analytical insights to drive strategic business decisions
- Coordinate projects and identify cross-functional teams needed for completion
- Review, document, and escalate issues, barriers, and risks to management
- Provide project and task coordination services to customers
- Manage workload, deadlines, quality, expectations, scope changes, and deliverables
- Implement project changes according to change-control policies and procedures
- Communicate project nature, significance, and risks to all parties
- Participate in post-implementation project reviews
- Gather customer requirements and translate business needs into actionable solutions
- Participate in training, professional development, team building, and group problem-solving
- Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports
- Write and optimize complex DAX for accurate and performant metrics
- Design reusable semantic models in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric
- Apply data governance and security controls
- Develop and optimize SQL Server queries, stored procedures, and views for reporting extraction and transformation
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Information Technology/Computer Science, Engineering, Business Management, Business Administration, Accounting, or Hospital Administration, OR bachelor’s degree in the listed fields with 4 years of data analytics experience
- 4 years of data analytics experience may substitute for the required degree
- EPIC official designation of “Proficient” within the new hire probationary period
- 1 year of experience with relational database structures, including design, testing, troubleshooting, and/or training, under the master’s-degree pathway
- 1 year of experience in data analysis and/or healthcare planning under the master’s-degree pathway
- 1 year of experience with reporting tools such as Crystal Reports under the master’s-degree pathway
- Experience with SQL/Oracle and/or Business Objects
- 2 years of experience with relational database structures, including design, testing, troubleshooting, and/or training, under the bachelor’s-degree pathway
- 2 years of experience in data analysis and/or healthcare planning under the bachelor’s-degree pathway
- 2 years of experience with reporting tools such as Crystal Reports under the bachelor’s-degree pathway
- Internal employees must meet all mandatory competencies in their current position to qualify for promotion within IT
- Familiarity with applications to be supported preferred
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Ability to work independently or as a team member, with multidisciplinary groups, and facilitate meetings
- Reading and comprehension ability; ability to type; ability to read and write legibly in English
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and make independent decisions
- Ability to work under high stress, adapt to changing workloads, and work in a fast-paced environment

- Power BI dashboard and report development using version control, performance tuning, and reusable design patterns
- Complex DAX, including time intelligence, calculation groups, and filter context manipulation
- Power BI and Microsoft Fabric semantic modeling
- Data governance, row-level security, data classification, and access controls
- SQL Server queries, stored procedures, and views
