Job Description

Coder I for Inpatient Apprenticeship with flexible hours and 100% remote work at Texas Health Resources. A rewarding career opportunity in healthcare coding and education.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops high competency and confidence in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, MS-DRG, an APR-DRG coding.
  • Receives in-depth clinical and coding education and feedback on a one-on-one basis and in a group setting.
  • Gains hands-on experience with real inpatient accounts under supervision.
  • Utilizes various resources/tools/formats provided by THR that support complete, accurate, and compliant coding.
  • Utilizes the electronic health record (EHR) and computer-assisted (CAC) technology in the most efficient manner.
  • Identifies the need for and writes professional and compliant provider queries.
  • Reconciles DRG Variances with Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI).
  • Becomes independent and develops strong research/resources skills.
  • Develops the knowledge and skill set required to successfully complete the program.
  • Maintains all THR set quality and production standards on coding and abstracting for all released service lines less than $125K.
  • Retains and utilizes achieved program goals.

Requirements:

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent REQUIRED
  • Associate's Degree Health Information Technology or other healthcare-related REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's Degree Health Information Administration or other healthcare-related REQUIRED
  • Completion of an AHIMA, AAPC, ACDIS, or other healthcare-related program REQUIRED
  • Have a coding credential REQUIRED
  • CCS - Certified Coding Specialist Obtain CCS coding certification upon completion of program 6 Months REQUIRED
  • Obtain CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder) coding certification upon completion of program 6 Months REQUIRED
  • Able to work 40 hours per week Monday - Friday day shift.
  • Have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook and Word.
