Job Description
Remote part-time course designer creating Middlebury College’s online Language Assessment course. Combining existing materials for world language teachers across elementary, secondary, and higher education.
Responsibilities:
- Combine materials from the Online Classroom Research & Assessment Course and previous 15-week MIIS Assessment course into a course for world language teachers in elementary through higher education contexts.
- Design a 7-module online asynchronous Language Assessment course delivered over seven weeks in Fall B 2026.
- Contextualize all content for teachers of languages other than English and a range of educational contexts.
- Include introductory and video lectures, audio lectures, pre-made readings, videos and podcasts, up to two discussion forums per module, and activities demonstrating module knowledge, skills, and dispositions.
- Engage in-language readers to comment on student designs for the final assessment.
Requirements:
- Doctoral degree in Applied Linguistics or a closely related field
- Experience teaching courses in teacher education programs
- Experience successfully designing and delivering online asynchronous courses
- Knowledge of Canvas as a learning management platform
- Knowledge of technical tools to facilitate engagement in an online synchronous course
- Deep working knowledge of the ACTFL Proficiency Skill and associated Can-Do statements across skills and proficiency levels
- Familiarity with the ACTFL World Language Readiness Standards
- Ability to work at a computer, standing or sitting
- Ability to access written documents, audio files, and videos
