Job Description

Crop claims representative assessing Eastern Iowa farm insurance claims for Great American’s Crop Division. Investigating field losses, negotiating settlements, and traveling throughout the territory.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage an inventory of crop-related claims to evaluate compensability/liability
  • Conduct claim investigations to confirm coverage and determine liability, compensability, and damages
  • Perform crop field work and apply knowledge of grain marketing
  • Determine and potentially negotiate claim settlements and reserves within prescribed authority
  • Attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials as needed
  • Convey routine to moderately complex coverage and settlement information to insureds, claimants, and external partners
  • Authorize payments within assigned authority limits and ensure timely payment
  • Maintain accurate and detailed claim files, including correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in general agriculture, ag business/sales, agronomy, and/or grain merchandising
  • Crop Insurance experience is highly favorable
  • Ability to travel up to 40% within the territory
  • Continuous and prolonged walking and standing
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects up to 50 lbs
  • Frequent climbing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling and crawling
  • Overhead reaching and grabbing
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Ability to conduct visual inspections
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions
  • Frequent travel
  • May require ability to operate a motor vehicle
