Job Description

Data Analyst detecting fraud risks across GiveDirectly’s global cash-transfer programs. Turning operational and payments data into audit-ready insights and fraud-detection tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze enrollment, payment, survey, and field-operations data to identify fraud patterns, anomalies, and emerging fraud typologies across programs and geographies
  • Build, validate, and maintain recurring fraud-risk monitoring with central data and operational control owners
  • Identify Internal Audit data-quality issues and help design and implement process improvements
  • Incorporate data-driven decision-making into Internal Audit process design
  • Prepare clear, credible briefs and presentations with recommendations for country teams, operations leadership, and senior management
  • Support fraud investigations through data pulls, exposure quantification, and event reconstruction
  • Ensure investigative analysis is reproducible and audit-ready with documented queries, data lineage, assumptions, exclusions, and QA checks
  • Translate validated risk signals into product requirements, domain expertise, acceptance criteria, and control testing with Product and Central Data
  • Partner with Data Engineering on upstream data-quality and pipeline improvements while owning the downstream analytical layer
  • Back-test risk indicators against investigated cases and monitor precision, coverage, and false-positive rates
  • Communicate uncertainty honestly by distinguishing confirmed fraud from suspicious but unconfirmed patterns
  • Work within Internal Audit with a dotted reporting line to the Director of Data; bridge Internal Audit domain requirements with organization-wide data and engineering practices

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in data analysis, audit, risk, or a related analytical role
  • Strong SQL skills
  • Comfort working directly in large, sometimes messy operational datasets, including Salesforce, payments, and survey data
  • Experience using Python for reproducible analysis, automation, record linkage, anomaly investigation, or data-quality testing is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with analytical notebooks, version control, and documenting analysis for review and reproduction is a plus
  • Experience with visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI, and/or Python/R for analysis
  • Ability to turn ambiguous exploratory analysis into a clear, defensible narrative for non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience or strong interest in working cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to translate analytical needs into product requirements
  • Sound judgment on evidence quality and ability to distinguish real signals from noise
  • High integrity and discretion when handling sensitive information about staff, recipients, and active investigations
  • Alignment with GiveDirectly's values, including prioritizing recipient wellbeing
  • Ability to overlap with an East Africa timezone by at least 3 hours
  • Must be eligible to work in one of GiveDirectly's eligible countries
  • GiveDirectly cannot sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas in the U.S. or U.K.

Benefits:

  • Bonus at target performance: 10%, with potential for upside
  • Annual benefits stipend: $21,393 in the United States, £2,760 in the United Kingdom, or $0 in Kenya
  • Robust health benefits plan (exact details vary by country)
  • Flexible paid time off
  • Desk set-up allowance
  • Learning and development allowance
  • Referral reward of $500 for a Manager role or $3,000 for a Senior Manager or above role, paid if the referral is hired
  • Fully remote work
