Job Description

Nursing Department Chair leading online programs and faculty at American Public University System. Advancing curriculum quality, student outcomes, and teaching excellence for military and public-service communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for a quality learning experience and ensure coherence and relevance in nursing disciplines
  • Support student learning outcomes, program quality, discipline integrity, faculty growth, success, belonging, and retention
  • Collaborate with academic, operational, and cross-functional departments and external stakeholders
  • Oversee daily operations of one or more programs and faculty
  • Articulate department goals and needs within and outside the institution
  • Develop, measure, and evaluate student learning outcomes, instructional efficacy, persistence, and retention
  • Participate in strategic planning and budgeting
  • Manage student conduct, appeals, and grievance processes
  • Hire, develop, support, and evaluate faculty
  • Document faculty achievements and improvements in teaching, research, curriculum management, and service
  • Recognize outstanding faculty and colleague performance
  • Assign courses and credential faculty to teach
  • Assign curriculum development to full-time faculty
  • Communicate regularly with faculty and convene faculty meetings
  • Support discipline and program continuity, currency, and relevance
  • Lead curriculum innovation, academic rigor, and teaching excellence
  • Demonstrate teaching excellence and share effective practices
  • Coach and develop others while managing competing priorities and difficult conversations

Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in nursing or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Five or more years of nursing experience
  • Five or more years of teaching experience
  • Academic management and leadership experience
  • Online teaching experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Experience with nursing specialty accreditation strongly preferred
  • Upload a CV and a copy of unofficial transcripts, master's degree and above
  • Full-time faculty members and department chairs must consider APU/AMU their primary employer
  • Full-time salaried faculty and department chairs may not be full-time employees of another university, school, college, or higher-education institution
