Job Description
Entry-level ZEISS Field Service Technician installing, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing CMM and metrology equipment. Supporting Canadian customers and senior technicians from a remote Toronto-area position.
Responsibilities:
- Complete classroom, online, and on-the-job technical training
- Develop proficiency in installation, preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of Coordinate Measuring Machines and related metrology equipment
- Assist senior technicians with installations, customer service calls, preventive maintenance, calibrations, troubleshooting, and repairs
- Perform assigned service activities under supervision and within the authorized training scope
- Independently complete assigned service activities after required training
- Diagnose basic mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and system-related issues
- Escalate complex technical issues to senior technicians or technical support
- Inspect equipment and recommend follow-up actions
- Provide responsive, solutions-focused customer support
- Communicate service findings, equipment status, completed work, and follow-up actions
- Manage customer expectations with timely service updates
- Represent ZEISS professionally at customer locations
- Coordinate with internal teams to resolve customer concerns
- Complete service reports, work orders, calibration records, expense reports, and other records
- Document equipment conditions, work performed, parts used, concerns, and recommendations
- Maintain company-system records and submit expenses on time
- Protect confidential customer and company information
- Maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, spare parts, and consumables
- Manage spare-parts and consumables inventory and maintain inventory records
- Coordinate with service, deployment, receiving, and warehouse teams
- Follow health and safety requirements, quality standards, security protocols, and service procedures
- Comply with customer-site safety requirements and use personal protective equipment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Report hazards, damaged equipment, and unsafe conditions
- Operate company vehicles and material-handling equipment safely
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- College diploma or university degree in electronics, electromechanical engineering technology, industrial mechanics, mechatronics, or a related technical discipline
- An equivalent combination of relevant technical training and practical work experience may be considered
- Previous experience installing, maintaining, repairing, or troubleshooting industrial electronics, mechanical equipment, machinery, or computer-controlled systems is preferred
- Experience with CMMs, precision measurement systems, or industrial metrology equipment is considered an asset
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems is required
- Previous customer-service or field-service experience is considered an asset
- Strong mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computer aptitude
- Ability to learn technical concepts, equipment, software, and service procedures
- Basic diagnostic, analytical, and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, drawings, and instructions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to explain technical information clearly and professionally
- Strong customer-service and relationship-building skills
- Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills
- Ability to complete accurate service and expense documentation
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced service environment
- Ability to work independently after completing the required training
- Ability to collaborate effectively with senior technicians and other internal teams
