Job Description
Freelance Afrikaans writer creating a 6,000-word short story for TransPerfect’s machine-translation technology testing. Submitting plots, completing revisions, and writing in an assigned genre.
Responsibilities:
- Create one high-quality short story of approximately 6,000 words to help test and improve Machine Translation technology
- Submit a brief plot for approval before writing the story
- Complete the story within the specified timeframe
- Make revisions if required based on feedback
- Write in an assigned genre based on selected preference: Kids, Thriller/Mystery, Sci-fi/Fantasy, Self-help, Romance, or Memoir/Biography
Requirements:
- Residency in South Africa
- Native-level fluency in Afrikaans
- Excellent Afrikaans writing skills, including grammar and spelling
- Working proficiency in English; all communication and guidelines are in English
- Degree in Literature or Creative Writing and/or proven experience in writing or content creation
- Strong preference for candidates with published books and/or high-quality writing samples in relevant genres
