Job Description
Freelance features writer producing hands-on, reported, and analytical wearables stories for Android Police. Pitching timely coverage of smartwatches, fitness trackers, and related technology.
Responsibilities:
- Pitch and produce original features for Android Police's wearables and fitness technology coverage
- Deliver deep dives, hands-on experiments, timely takes, reported features, how-tos, and analysis
- Submit strong pitches weekly
- Pitch and file same-day or next-day pieces on breaking news, operating-system releases, or viral trends
- Meet a minimum set of published stories per month under a freelance contract
- Produce 100% editorial content with no commerce, affiliate, or sponsored content
- Provide well-sourced writing subject to professional copy editing and fact-checking
- Contribute work for publication on the site, social channels, and newsletters
Requirements:
- 3+ years writing features for established tech/consumer outlets
- Prior bylines required
- Deep knowledge of at least one covered beat: smartwatches and fitness trackers; smart rings; smart glasses; health, fitness, and sleep tracking features and apps; wearable software and firmware updates, features, and hidden tricks; wearable accessories, setups, and workflows
- Current Android devices running Android 14 or later
- Smart home and/or E Ink gear relevant to coverage
- US or Canada-based preferred; exceptional writers elsewhere considered if they can reliably work within an Eastern time zone
- Passion for the beat and ability to deliver fresh, original takes
- Three relevant previously written articles, including at least one hands-on piece
- Brief note on primary beat and hardware setup
- Fresh pitch idea tailored to Android Police
- Links to social profiles or portfolio
