Job Description

Head of Accounting & Tax overseeing consolidated reporting, IFRS accounting and Mexican tax compliance for albo’s fintech products. Leading close, audits, controls and accounting automation.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the accuracy, timeliness and integrity of the group’s accounting, financial statements and tax compliance
  • Report to the CFO and lead the accounting team
  • Work closely with FP&A, Treasury, Legal, Compliance, Operations and Technology
  • Deliver the monthly close by D+10
  • Review accruals, journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Prepare entity and consolidated financial statements and reporting packages
  • Reconcile accounting actuals with FP&A’s financial model and explain differences
  • Own intercompany reconciliations, eliminations, foreign currency translation and group consolidation
  • Assess accounting and consolidation treatment of financing trusts and special purpose vehicles
  • Maintain documented IFRS group policies and bridges to Mexican statutory and regulatory accounting requirements
  • Prepare technical memos for material judgments and complex transactions
  • Oversee lending accounting, including accrued interest, effective interest rates, fees, expected credit losses, write-offs and recoveries
  • Reconcile loan servicing data, cash collections and portfolio balances to the general ledger
  • Ensure accurate recognition and reconciliation of payment, interchange, subscription and other service revenues, settlement balances, customer funds and related costs
  • Own accounting analysis and supporting schedules for debt, financing costs, investments, goodwill and intangible asset impairment, deferred taxes and share-based payments
  • Review new products, partnerships, acquisitions and funding arrangements before implementation
  • Own the Mexican tax calendar, filings, payments, accounting-to-tax reconciliations and supporting records
  • Oversee income tax, VAT, withholding taxes and tax balances, including refunds and credits
  • Coordinate transfer pricing studies and documentation
  • Coordinate UK and cross-border tax matters with specialist advisers
  • Own financial and accounting components of applicable CNBV and Banco de México reporting
  • Lead the group’s annual audit process across Mexico and the UK
  • Maintain audit readiness and coordinate UK statutory filing
  • Implement controls over cutoff, reconciliations, journal approvals, intercompany transactions, equity, stock options and supporting documentation
  • Develop the accounting team and manage external accounting and tax providers
  • Improve ERP workflows, chart of accounts and system integrations
  • Automate repeatable reconciliations and reporting while preserving data lineage, access controls and review evidence

Requirements:

  • A degree in Accounting
  • At least eight years of relevant accounting, financial reporting and tax experience
  • At least three years leading teams and owning the close and external audits
  • Experience in a regulated Mexican financial institution
  • Practical knowledge of regulatory accounting and reporting
  • Strong IFRS knowledge
  • Experience preparing consolidated financial statements for a group with multiple entities
  • Practical Mexican tax experience
  • Ability to manage transfer pricing and cross-border matters with specialist advisers
  • Experience reconciling high volumes of transactions across operational systems, banks, subledgers and the general ledger
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills
  • Hands-on ERP experience
  • Fluent Spanish and advanced professional English
  • Ability to discuss technical accounting and audit matters and prepare written explanations for international stakeholders
  • Track record of delivering accurate closes and audit milestones under tight deadlines
  • Direct experience with an IFPE, SoFiPo payments or consumer and SME lending, including IFRS 9 and loan portfolio reconciliations would be valuable
  • Experience with UK group audits and statutory accounts, financing trusts, warehouse facilities or other structured lending arrangements would be valuable
  • Experience with Oracle NetSuite, Simetrik, SQL or business intelligence platforms would be valuable
  • Experience with SOFIPOs or banking accounting and regulatory reporting, acquisitions, goodwill impairment or employee stock option plans would be valuable
