Job Description
Online high school science teacher delivering IEP-based special education instruction for Texas Virtual Academy students. Monitoring progress, collaborating with families, and supporting virtual learning and in-person testing.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as teacher of record for students and provide instruction, support, and guidance
- Manage the learning process for self-contained and ALT students according to individual IEP needs
- Monitor progress toward IEP goals and maintain service logs and required special education compliance documentation
- Collaborate with parents and colleagues on course goals, curriculum, and materials
- Create compliant IEPs, progress reports, and state-specific special education documentation
- Participate in collaborative special education meetings, including annual IEP meetings
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities and professional development
- Provide engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences
- Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment and monitor student growth
- Collect data and work samples to monitor IEP progress
- Document parent contacts, teacher collaborations, and student interventions
- Ensure accommodations and modifications using assistive technology, supplemental curriculum, and accessible text
- Provide special education services and support general education teachers and parents with accommodations
- Promote inclusion and success in the general education classroom
- Maintain the grade book and provide input on placement and promotion decisions
- Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests
- Maintain positive rapport with families and communicate with students and learning coaches/parents promptly
- Support learning coaches/parents with curricular, instructional, and basic virtual-classroom troubleshooting issues
- Support in-person student testing
Requirements:
- Texas residency required
- Texas Special Education and ESL certificates/licenses preferred
- Experience working with self-contained and ALT students in the proposed age group preferred
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology preferred
- Experience teaching online (virtual) and/or in a brick-and-mortar environment preferred
- Experience with an online learning platform preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data and use it to drive instructional decisions
- Receptive to receiving regular coaching from administrators
- Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
- Strong written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time to support in-person student testing, attend professional development, or other required travel
- Ability to clear a required background check
