Job Description
Certified middle school science teacher delivering virtual instruction for Washington Connections Academy, a tuition-free online public school. Supporting students through LiveLessons, differentiated instruction, family engagement, and state testing.
Responsibilities:
- Virtually manage instructional programs for middle school science students
- Host a homeroom and serve as a role model and mentor
- Host weekly homeroom LiveLessons
- Support students and families with Welcome Calls, Intent to Return, monthly WSLP Progress Checks, and academic progress
- Deliver at least one synchronous LiveLesson per course each week, or combine LiveLessons with office hours
- Provide asynchronous support videos
- Deliver differentiated Tier 1 instruction and help develop and implement Tier 2 and 3 interventions
- Monitor student progress and provide small-group synchronous instruction
- Grade assignments within 8 days and provide clear, constructive feedback
- Review curriculum and develop alternate lesson approaches
- Support students and caretakers with alternate lessons, assessments, strategies, assignments, and projects
- Collaborate with instructional staff and learning specialists on modifications and enrichment activities
- Communicate regularly with caretakers, students, and instructional staff by computer and telephone
- Connect individually with each content-area student at least once per semester
- Log all contacts within 24 hours
- Meet weekly student-contact requirements
- Coordinate and attend social activities and field trips
- Create and maintain a virtual school community
- Participate in state testing, including in-person WIDA and/or SBAC/WCAS proctoring across Washington
- Participate in recruiting sessions and marketing efforts
- Collaborate on IEP and 504 teams
- Review student progress data and improve instructional practices through professional learning communities
- Work with Advisory Teachers and School Counselors to support student and family communications and progress
- Attend in-person training and team-building activities throughout Washington
- Report critical incidents affecting student well-being as required
- Complete assigned professional development, SEL, and DEI training
- Serve in assigned school-wide representative or Career Ladder roles
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Washington teacher certification in K-8 Elementary Education or Science
- Residence in Washington preferred
- Team player track record and ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
- Strong technology skills, especially Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Experience with synchronous classroom programs such as Zoom
- Experience with third-party educational software such as Nearpod
- Experience with spreadsheets, databases, and data collection and examination tools
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
- Ability to foster an inclusive and culturally responsive work and school environment
- Student- and family-focused approach
- Ability to travel for one, possibly two, weeks at a time, including overnight travel
- Ability to use a personal electronic device and email address for 2-step authentication
