Job Description
Inpatient Coder 3 within Wellstar reviewing inpatient and IVR medical records, assigning diagnostic and procedural codes, and maintaining documentation accuracy.
Responsibilities:
- Reviewing documentation in inpatient and/or IVR medical records
- Accurately and completely assigning appropriate ICD-10-CM diagnostic and ICD-10-PCS/CPT-4 HCPCS procedural codes
- Abstracting demographic and coding information accurately and completely
- Meeting productivity standards
- Querying providers for clarification
- Managing additional coding responsibilities
- Resolving coding edits and reminders in a timely manner
- Completing assigned work by goal date
- Serving as a mentor to new coders
- Assisting with cleaning up or escalating missing documentation or other work queues
- Performing other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 3 years of acute care inpatient and/or IVR coding experience
- Cert Coding Spec-Preferred
- Cert Prof Coder-Preferred
- Cert Prof Coder - Hospital OP-Preferred
- Reg Health Information Admin-Preferred
- Reg Health Information Tech-Preferred
- Computer/data entry experience
- Ability to work in a remote environment
- Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team
- Ability to use Microsoft (Excel, Word)
