Job Description
Grant-writing intern researching foundation donors and developing proposals for the American Heart Association. Supporting fundraising strategy, Salesforce documentation, and donor stewardship for cardiovascular health initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct external research on prospective foundation donors using database tools and basic internet research
- Identify donor priorities, application due dates, and application requirements
- Contact assigned foundations to inquire about opportunities and proposal requirements and deadlines
- Document foundation information in Salesforce CRM and share it with the fundraising team
- Attend planning meetings with experienced fundraisers to develop donor and prospect cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans
- Write applications and customize proposals using resources and templates
- Ensure proposals are well-written, compelling, consistent with AHA strategic direction and funding needs, and responsive to donor goals
- Document donor plans and activity in Salesforce CRM using dashboards and reports
- Provide regular progress reporting as requested
- Work on special assignments as requested
- Handle sensitive and confidential information discreetly and professionally
- Follow ethical guidelines and data privacy regulations when researching and handling donor information
Requirements:
- College seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in nonprofit management, health administration, communications with a nonprofit focus, or public administration are encouraged to apply
- 1 year of experience in research or grants administration with a funding organization, academic institution, or relevant coursework
- Excellent writing skills
- Research skills, including conducting deep dives into individuals, companies, and foundations
- Strong analytical skills and comfort with qualitative and quantitative data
- Intermediate to highly skilled with Microsoft Excel
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to work independently and professionally in a corporate environment
- Ability to assume responsibility for completing projects from inception through final results
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities
- Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Canva
- Reliable WiFi connection
- Minimum availability of 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 8:30am and 5pm
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future
- For remote work, must perform the work inside the United States, not in a foreign country
