Job Description
Comedy Writer expanding a plush-character brand’s established universe through comics, memes, animation, and social content. Generating character-driven ideas and briefs for illustrators.
Responsibilities:
- Generate a high volume of comedy concepts rooted in the existing characters
- Develop funny situations, character interactions, comic concepts, recurring bits, and social hooks
- Learn the characters’ personalities, relationships, and world deeply
- Generate a steady volume of ideas and content week over week
- Create concepts across comics, memes, stickers/GIFs, short-form video, and static posts
- Adapt ideas to different formats and platforms
- Develop concepts where text and imagery work together to create humor
- Turn comedy and character concepts into clear creative briefs for illustrators
- Collaborate with the team through project management tools and regular check-ins
- Expand the established character universe through comedy, social content, memes, comics, short-form animation, and character storytelling
- Complete the application form and record a video showcasing skill sets
Requirements:
- Candidates must be based in LATAM, Africa, or Eastern Europe
- Must be available to work 9 AM–5 PM EST, aligned with U.S. business hours
- Sharp and current understanding of U.S. humor and internet culture
- Strong instinct for character-driven comedy
- Strong understanding of how text and imagery work together to create comedy
- Ability to turn creative ideas into briefs illustrators can execute
- Ability to generate a high volume of ideas and identify the strongest concepts
- Ability to adapt concepts across comics, memes, short-form video, stickers/GIFs, and static social content
- Experience writing for a character or mascot brand is a plus
- Experience or strong interest in animated characters, comics, and toy culture is a plus
- Formal experience level is flexible; junior, senior, self-taught, and formally trained candidates are considered
- English resume in PDF format required
- Required to submit a video showcasing skill sets
- Required to provide examples of comedy, character-driven, or social content
- Required to answer the application questions, including AI tools and use cases
