Job Description

Medical Science Liaison supporting ophthalmology and optometry healthcare professionals across a U.S. field territory. Delivering scientific education, gathering insights, and guiding Medical Affairs strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders in optometry and ophthalmology within the assigned territory
  • Serve as the primary Medical Affairs point of contact for scientific exchange and educational engagement through virtual and in-person interactions
  • Gather actionable field insights and communicate findings to internal stakeholders to help shape medical strategy and initiatives
  • Deliver disease state and scientific education to healthcare providers and practice staff
  • Support educational initiatives within optometry schools and ophthalmology residency programs
  • Provide guidance regarding investigator-initiated research processes and medical information resources
  • Identify and recommend expert faculty and advisors for educational programs, advisory boards, publications, clinical research, and other Medical Affairs initiatives
  • Develop and execute KOL engagement plans and attend local, regional, and national scientific meetings
  • Collaborate with professional societies and relevant healthcare organizations within the territory
  • Present scientific and clinical information to healthcare stakeholders, including payer audiences
  • Contribute leadership and expertise to Medical Affairs projects and cross-functional initiatives
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to training, insights generation, and field medical operations
  • Lead and facilitate scientific discussions and educational programs focused on disease awareness and patient care
  • Collaborate with Clinical Development, Commercial, Medical Information, and Training
  • Provide support for clinical development activities and study-related initiatives when needed
  • Maintain territory plans, KOL profiles, CRM documentation, and budget accountability

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD), MD, PharmD, or PhD with expertise in ophthalmology, optometry, or eye care
  • 2+ years of Medical Science Liaison experience within ophthalmology, optometry, or a related specialty
  • Alternative backgrounds may include significant clinical eye care experience combined with industry exposure
  • Senior-level opportunities may be available for candidates with 4+ years of prior MSL experience
  • Strong scientific communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent relationship-building and emotional intelligence
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Experience using CRM platforms, Microsoft Office, and other field-based tools
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and communicate actionable insights
  • Strong collaboration and cross-functional partnership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Candidates should reside within the territory, ideally within easy access to a major airport
