Job Description
Consultant conducting field research on socio-economic impacts of extreme heat in Karachi, Pakistan. Involvement in data collection, stakeholder engagement, and socio-economic assessments with local expertise.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct essential in-country activities, including data collection, background literature research, and contextualizing the framework for the specific regional realities of Karachi, Pakistan.
- Contributing to the Socio-Economic Impact Assessment for the Karachi case study by gathering qualitative and quantitative data on the socio-economic impacts of extreme heat from non-traditional, local sources.
- Performing background-literature research on current local heat-health adaptation interventions to more comprehensively understand exposure and vulnerabilities of the focus geography.
- Bring in local expertise on socio-economic context including local characteristics and social norms to be mindful of for the data evaluation.
Requirements:
- Local Presence & Language: Must be physically based in or very near the case study location and fluent in the relevant local language.
- Field Research Experience: Demonstrated experience in qualitative data collection, such as conducting interviews, facilitating focus groups, or engaging with institutional stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Network & Access: Proven ability to navigate local institutions and communities. Existing contacts or a clear strategy for accessing key data sources.
- Cultural & Contextual Understanding: Deep understanding of the socio-economic and cultural context of the case study location, including the structure of the local labour market and health systems.
