Job Description
Insurance risk principal associate protecting Capital One’s commercial loan portfolio. Reviewing commercial coverage, resolving deficiencies, managing waivers, and guiding GSE-related insurance compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Review loan documentation, third-party documents, and investor guidelines to identify applicable insurance requirements
- Identify deficiencies in current policies and collaborate with agents and borrowers to resolve non-compliant items
- Analyze insurance certificates, binders, full policies, and endorsements for accuracy and adequacy
- Evaluate risk associated with insurance deficiencies and determine waiver feasibility
- Draft comprehensive justifications for investor approval
- Maintain subject matter expertise in General Liability, Umbrella/Excess, Property, and related coverages
- Partner with internal lines of business and external stakeholders, including borrowers, agents, third-party providers, and GSEs
- Manage force-placed insurance processes when necessary
- Represent the department in internal and external audits
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, increase internal controls, and improve departmental efficiency
Requirements:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification
- At least 5 years of experience in the insurance industry, with a focus on commercial risk, underwriting, or compliance
- Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience (preferred)
- 2+ years of experience working with Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac (GSE) Multifamily Loans (preferred)
- Certification in Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), or Certified Risk Manager (CRM) certification (preferred)
- Deep technical understanding of commercial insurance coverages as they relate to real estate lending and GSE requirements
- Strong professional correspondence skills and ability to write clear, persuasive, concise technical justifications
- Proven track record of working independently, managing a high-volume workload, and meeting deadlines
