Job Description

Principal Mobile Engineer guiding mobile architecture and enhancing mobile experience at Engine's travel platform. Collaborating across teams to shape technical strategies and mentor future leaders.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the long-term architectural vision for Engine’s mobile applications, ensuring scalability, performance, reliability, and maintainability as the platform grows.
  • Act as a principal hands-on contributor on complex, high-visibility initiatives, setting the standard for engineering excellence and execution quality.
  • Partner across mobile, web, and platform teams to create cohesive architectures, shared patterns, and a consistent user experience.
  • Define frameworks, development practices, and architectural patterns that enable teams to move faster while maintaining a high bar.
  • Collaborate with product and design leadership to influence sequencing, investment areas, and technical strategy for mobile.
  • Lead architecture reviews, guide performance optimization efforts, identify technical risks, and raise the overall technical bar.
  • Coach and mentor Staff and Senior Engineers, helping grow future technical leaders and scaling your impact through others.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for mobile across the organization, advising on platform decisions, trade-offs, and long-term evolution.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years building and scaling mobile applications, including ownership of large, production-grade mobile platforms.
  • Deep expertise in React Native, strong mobile architecture skills, and a proven ability to design systems that scale across teams and products.
  • Experience with native iOS (Swift/SwiftUI) and/or Android (Kotlin/Jetpack), including performance tuning and native module development.
  • A track record of leading complex initiatives, aligning stakeholders, and driving technical direction through influence rather than authority.
  • Strong architectural judgment, comfort operating in ambiguity, and a bias toward durable, reusable solutions.
  • Demonstrated success mentoring senior engineers, shaping technical culture, and raising the bar across an organization.
