Job Description
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner diagnosing and treating patients through Brave Health’s technology-enabled mental health platform. Providing psychotherapy, medication management, and coordinated care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide care to adolescent and adult patients, or across the lifespan, as assigned
- Assess patients’ mental and physical status based on presenting symptoms and complaints
- Diagnose psychiatric disorders and mental health conditions
- Distinguish between physiologically- and psychologically-based disorders and diagnose appropriately
- Conduct individual psychotherapy for chronic or acute mental disorders
- Order diagnostic testing such as EKGs and lab work
- Prescribe psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, and educate patients on risks, benefits, and side effects
- Monitor medication usage, side effects, and treatment results
- Evaluate patient behavior and response to treatment
- Verbally deescalate difficult patients when necessary
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans
- Educate patients and family members about mental health conditions, treatment plans, and medications
- Document medical and psychological histories, assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes
- Complete administrative documentation, including FMLA and other approved forms
- Schedule and coordinate follow-up appointments and ongoing treatment needs
- Complete patient visits and accurate documentation in the EHR
- Practice in compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, national standards of care, and internal policies
- Use recommended references and consult with the Clinical Director and/or Medical Director for clinical guidance as needed
Requirements:
- 2 years experience practicing as a Nurse Practitioner
- Currently holds a Board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner license (PMHNP)
- Experience in Addiction and Mental Health
- Open to obtaining additional state licensures
- Motivational Interviewing experience
- Willingness to work in partnership with the client to achieve goals
- Must have experience working with adults in need of general mental health and/or severe mental illness (SMI) treatment
- Must have experience and comfort working with patients across the lifespan (ages 13yrs+)
- Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and/or substance abuse dual-diagnoses
- Treatment planning
- Ability to conduct and utilize comprehensive assessments
- Timely and quality documentation; experience with EHRs
- Adaptable to technology including telehealth software; comfortable with video communication
- Awareness of and compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2
- Eligibility to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship or assistance with work eligibility
- For clinicians holding a Florida or New York license, an active DEA registration is required and must be obtained and maintained by the clinician
- Spanish-speaking proficiency is preferred; proficiency in other languages is a plus
- Previous telehealth experience is preferred
- Previous experience within the Community Mental Health sector is preferred
