Job Description
Process Engineer designing complete process engineering assignments for chemical and petroleum projects. Responsible for safety, project criteria, and mentoring within a team environment.
Responsibilities:
- Performing all aspects for complete designs of process engineering assignments
- Promoting the culture of working safely and applying safety related concepts into process design
- Establishing the design criteria, incorporating client requirements, estimate and/or scope basis and design basis meeting applicable state, local and federal standards and codes
- Ensuring that any requirements for permitting have been established and communicated to the project team
- Advising the Lead Engineer of potential design or scope changes
- Delegating work to engineers and designers in proportion to their technical skills and experience
- Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure inter-disciplinary alignment on projects
- Producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs
- Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies
- Producing detailed design calculations and drawings for the project
- Checking calculations, reports, and studies made by other engineers to ensure accuracy
- Producing equipment and construction specifications
- Monitoring drawings in progress to ensure conformance to design calculations and specifications
- Reviewing fabrication drawings and vendor submittals for conformance
- Developing engineering and equipment specifications
- Participating in professional society meetings and sales activities including pre-bid meetings, client presentations, and proposal development
- Traveling as required for client presentations, project related tasks, and training opportunities
- Actively mentoring less experienced process engineers
Requirements:
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university
- Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is highly preferred
- 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum, or biochemical process design engineering
- Basic knowledge of chemical/biochemical process engineering and chemical/biochemical process computer programs
- Familiarity with specifications and installation details of equipment, instrumentation, and piping
- Ability to create accurate process engineering documents from vendor equipment data and drawings
- Complete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform process engineering and design functions
- Working knowledge of CAD software preferred, either AutoCAD or Microstation (or both)
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Working knowledge in the use of hydraulic simulation software such as AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, PIPEPHASE, PIPE-FLO, and/or SiNet
- Working knowledge in the use of process simulation software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen Plus Dynamics, PRO/II, DYNSIM, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, WinGEMS, ProMax, etc.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
