Job Description
Software Engineer developing civic tech solutions for government services. Building and maintaining APIs and user interfaces while promoting accessibility and compliance standards.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain API endpoints and business logic
- Update and optimize database models through code
- Build and improve data processing jobs to support API operations
- Develop new UI features that interact with APIs
- Write and maintain automated tests to keep our codebase reliable as it grows
- Review code and provide constructive feedback through pull requests
- Write and review technical specifications for upcoming development tasks
- Make minor cloud infrastructure updates using Terraform
- Maintain documentation and contribute to the team's knowledge base
- Participate in agile team meetings, including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience testing web-based applications
- Strong familiarity with Section 508 and WCAG 2.2 compliance standards
- Experience with screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) and other assistive technologies
- Experience with accessibility testing tools (axe DevTools, WAVE, Pa11y, etc.)
- Understanding of ARIA attributes and semantic HTML
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working within cross-functional teams
- Experience using test automation tools such as Playwright to create and maintain automated test scripts for web applications
- Deep familiarity with testing best practices, including writing clear and reproducible bug reports, designing comprehensive test plans, and ensuring robust test coverage throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Ability to meet any other requirements for government contracts for which candidates are hired
- Work authorization that doesn’t require visa sponsorship, now or in the future
- May be subject to a government background check or security clearance, depending on the contract
