Job Description
Senior Accountant I managing general ledger accounts while ensuring compliance with GAAP and providing financial reports. Collaborating across teams to support financial operations in TDS.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor, analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts and financial statements.
- Review and understand assigned accounts for accuracy and ensure that transactions are properly recorded.
- Perform reconciliation, research and resolve discrepancies using finance systems.
- Perform analysis related to areas as assigned to identify and minimize discrepancies.
- Monitor systems and accounts to ensure accurate and timely financial systems and accounts are processed within GAAP and business unit and regulation guidelines.
- Perform account reconciliation and post journal entries, as needed.
- Lead regular month-end closing activities including reconciliations, analysis, journal entries, accruals and reporting.
- Lead the maintenance of procedural and control documentation.
- Accurate application of GAAP (including regulatory specific accounting guidance).
- Apply understanding of GAAP to operational accounting functions.
- Review and verify the accuracy of account coding.
- Provide income tax and transaction tax support.
- Prepare and analyze monthly income and balance sheet statements that are used for internal and external reporting purposes.
- Respond to financial inquiries; provide requested information for use in effective management of the business and/or meeting external reporting needs.
- May be assigned one or more finance functional areas below: Operational Accounting.
- Prepare and/or review journal entries in accordance with regulatory and/or GAAP requirements.
- Reconcile, research and resolve discrepancies of balance sheet accounts.
- Perform monthly income statement and balance sheet analysis to support internal and external reporting.
- In addition to the above, Fixed Asset assignments include: Reconcile quarterly and annual physical counts. Monitor, analyze and record construction projects.
- Provide and effectively communicate financial information for internal and external audit.
- Prepare certain external regulatory filings and reporting.
- Lead certain accounting activities as assigned.
- Validate work product is accurate and appropriate.
- Provide feedback, including sharing best practices, to other team members.
- Cash Accounting: Lead the monitoring of cash general ledger accounts and reconciliation of bank accounts and statements for completeness and accuracy.
- Analyze the cause of over/shorts related to bank deposits where more complex analysis is required; work with leaders to minimize these discrepancies.
- Lead daily reconciliation of all cash and non-cash receipts.
- Lead the maintenance of procedural and control documentation for Cash Accounting activities.
- Provide support and guidance to team.
- Assist in the development and maintaining team procedures and documentation.
- Help represent team at project meetings.
- Contribute towards the accomplishment of team goals and objectives.
- Assist in reviewing the work of others, as well as training and mentoring team members.
- Participates on cross-functional teams as required (e.g. acquisition/merger support, billing conversion).
- Identify business process improvement opportunities; assist in development and implementation of effective solutions.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or 4+ years equivalent professional work experience.
- 3+ years’ experience with the application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) or equivalent combination of technical and functional experience.
- CPA license or plans to obtain CPA license.
- Ability to work effectively in a complex fast-moving organization, satisfying needs of diverse constituents, under the pressure of competing priorities.
- Passion for continuous improvement and solving problems by collaborating with colleagues and various business partners.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and SAP and BI/Power BI.
- Interest in AI and automation methodologies to efficiently summarize and present data to leadership.
- Knowledge and understanding of financial calculations and accounting reconciliation methods.
- Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact persuasively at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently and/or within a team setting depending on the nature of the assignment.
