Job Description
Senior Backend Engineer building Kafka, GraphQL, and backend systems for Factor Eleven’s retail promotion platform. Owning media planning, allocation, and approval workflows.
Responsibilities:
- Own and evolve backend workstreams in the Media Planning team, focusing on the media allocation engine, Kafka integration, and DocuSign approval flow
- Take end-to-end ownership of technical topics from problem understanding and approach definition through implementation, testing, rollout, and follow-through
- Collaborate with product and engineering counterparts on scoping, sequencing, and trade-offs
- Extend and maintain event-driven contracts with Order Management using Kafka and outbox patterns
- Contribute to a federated GraphQL backend architecture spanning multiple services
- Reason about cross-service dependencies and eventual consistency
- Partner with backend, frontend, product, and DevOps colleagues on shared initiatives
- Review code and contribute to technical discussions
- Help raise engineering standards through collaboration and execution
- Surface constraints and risks early and drive work through completion
Requirements:
- 6+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally in startup or scale-up environments
- Strong TypeScript and Node.js backend experience
- Experience with GraphQL in real product environments, ideally federation or subgraph-based architectures
- Hands-on experience with event-driven systems and distributed architecture patterns such as Kafka, outbox patterns, and at-least-once delivery semantics
- NestJS experience is a strong plus
- Autonomous decision-making with incomplete information and responsibility for outcomes
- Highly structured and analytical approach
- Clear and direct communication regarding scope, trade-offs, risk, and delivery
- Comfort working in a lean team with high ownership, initiative, and standards
- Experience in AdTech, MarTech, SaaS, or other event-driven platform environments is a plus
- English is required
- Valid work permit for the location of the role and eligibility to work there
