Job Description
Backend Engineer building scalable data pipelines and distributed systems for YipitData’s alternative-data market research platform. Maintaining reliable data services and architecture for global teams.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, optimize, and maintain highly scalable structured and unstructured data pipelines
- Maintain and enhance existing data systems and services for stability, reliability, and high availability
- Build and refine expandable, high-performance data architecture
- Partner with teams across the organization to provide reliable data services to internal users
- Translate product and business requirements into useful data functionalities and intuitive data visualizations
- Oversee integration and maintenance of collaborative data with third-party clients
- Resolve third-party data mining and analytical issues
- Collaborate with teams in the US, Singapore, and China, with flexibility around work hours
- Enforce best practices in data governance, security, and compliance
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline from a top-tier (Tier 1/2) institution
- 4+ years of hands-on software development experience
- Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals, core data structures, and advanced algorithms
- Excellent proficiency in Python, Golang, or Java; Python is most preferred
- Proficiency with messaging platforms such as Kafka, RMQ, and SQS
- Proficiency with relational and NoSQL datastores such as MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB, Cassandra, ScyllaDB, HBase, Redis, and Aerospike
- Experience architecting and developing large-scale distributed systems
- Familiarity with microservice architecture, API gateway patterns, and service observability including logging, tracing, and metrics
- Experience building and operating systems with strict latency and reliability requirements in 24/7 environments
- Experience with high-performance, high-uptime systems (99.99%+)
- Experience with self-recoverable architectures
- Experience with container/VM orchestration platforms
- Strong architectural expertise with modern backend stacks including Go, Python, Java, and Node.js
- Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, GCP, and Azure
- Experience with Kubernetes and Docker
- Excellent logic analysis capabilities and ability to abstract and split business logic reasonably
- Strong ownership, self-motivation, independent delivery, and effective collaboration
- Ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts and organization-wide strategies to engineers, cross-functional partners, and executives
