Job Description
Senior Counsel advising Aledade’s independent primary-care network on privacy, HIPAA, healthcare regulation, and emerging AI governance. Supporting contracts, incidents, audits, and cross-functional risk solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Independently manage and own discrete privacy verticals, driving projects from issue-spotting through resolution with minimal oversight
- Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice on privacy laws applicable to U.S. healthcare organizations, including HIPAA, state privacy and data breach notification laws, and other federal and state requirements
- Advise business, product, and engineering teams on artificial intelligence laws, regulations, governance frameworks, and responsible AI practices
- Support the internal commercial contracting team with escalated review of privacy-related provisions in vendor agreements, data use agreements, and business associate agreements
- Support development and maintenance of privacy policies, procedures, and training materials
- Partner with Compliance, Security, IT, and business teams to identify privacy risks and implement risk-based solutions
- Monitor developments in privacy and AI law and communicate implications to stakeholders
- Support responses to privacy incidents, regulatory inquiries, and audits
- Use AI tools thoughtfully and effectively in day-to-day legal work to improve efficiency, quality, and turnaround time
- Report to the Privacy Officer and Associate General Counsel
Requirements:
- J.D. and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, in good standing
- Minimum of 6 years of total legal experience, including at least 2 years at a law firm with substantive privacy or healthcare regulatory work
- Prior experience advising healthcare organizations or clients on privacy, regulatory, or compliance matters is required
- Working knowledge of HIPAA and other U.S. privacy laws applicable to healthcare entities
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and exercise sound judgment with limited supervision
- Self-starter mindset and willingness to take ownership of projects and privacy verticals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-lawyers
- Comfort and enthusiasm using AI tools, including generative AI and legal research and drafting assistants, in daily legal workflow
- Interest in and willingness to advise on AI governance and AI-related legal and regulatory issues intersecting with privacy
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to build trust with stakeholders across legal, compliance, product, and business teams
- Professional certifications such as CIPP, CIPM, or AIGP are preferred
- Familiarity with NIST Privacy Framework and/or NIST AI RMF is preferred
- Prior in-house experience, particularly within healthcare or health tech, is preferred
