Job Description
Senior Database Migration Engineer leading the migration of enterprise geoscience product database from SQL Anywhere to PostgreSQL. Ensuring data integrity and seamless integration with existing application stack.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze the existing SQL Anywhere database schema, objects, dependencies, and data structures.
- Convert proprietary SQL Anywhere functions, stored procedures, triggers, and queries into ANSI-compliant and PostgreSQL-compatible SQL.
- Redesign and optimize database schemas to align with PostgreSQL best practices.
- Develop, execute, and validate data migration scripts for large production datasets.
- Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency throughout and after migration.
- Perform post-migration validation, reconciliation, and performance benchmarking.
- Optimize indexing strategies and improve query execution performance in PostgreSQL.
- Collaborate closely with application developers to integrate the migrated database with the existing application stack.
- Troubleshoot migration issues and provide long-term database optimization recommendations.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of hands-on experience working with relational database systems
- Strong hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL (or SQL Server with proven migration experience)
- Advanced SQL skills, including stored procedures, triggers, constraints, and indexing
- Strong understanding of query optimization, performance tuning, and execution plans
- Experience working with large schemas and enterprise-scale production databases
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex database and data consistency issues
- Strong analytical and documentation skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
- Relevant database certifications (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.) will be a plus.
