Job Description

Senior DevOps Engineer operating Snowflake and cloud AI platforms for phData, a data and AI consultancy. Leading managed-services reliability, incident response, automation, and client delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical delivery and operational reliability of cloud data and AI platforms, including Snowflake, Anthropic, AWS, and Azure solutions.
  • Own end-to-end operational support and incident management across multiple client environments.
  • Translate business and data requirements into resilient, cost-effective operational solutions.
  • Monitor and support production ETL/ELT jobs and pipelines, resolving failures promptly.
  • Respond to pager incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement preventative measures.
  • Ensure engagements are delivered on time, within scope, and with measurable client value.
  • Collaborate with data engineering, analytics, solutions architecture, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership during incident bridges, troubleshooting sessions, and design or runbook reviews.
  • Maintain documentation, knowledge articles, runbooks, governance, and change-management processes.
  • Improve operational maturity, standardize patterns, and enhance client satisfaction.
  • Build operational playbooks, automation scripts, monitoring standards, and training materials.
  • Mentor peers and junior DevOps engineers through knowledge sharing and coaching.
  • Use AI tools daily for troubleshooting, automation, documentation, and knowledge capture, validating outputs before production use.
  • Advise senior client stakeholders on operational strategy, reliability, and performance optimization.
  • Lead complex incident and problem-management efforts and drive long-term remediation and platform improvements.
  • Define and refine managed-services standards, reusable assets, and delivery frameworks.

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of experience in DevOps, cloud data platform operations, and/or production support for data and analytics workloads.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, including writing, debugging, and optimizing queries.
  • Experience supporting Snowflake and/or Amazon Redshift across a large user base.
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Production support experience monitoring scheduled ETL/ELT jobs and pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux and system administration concepts.
  • Basic proficiency writing and optimizing Python for scripting and automation.
  • Experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud-native data services, such as S3, ADLS, or Azure Data Factory.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and SLA-driven support environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, and incident/problem management skills.
  • Strong client-facing written and verbal communication skills.
  • Active daily use of AI coding tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or equivalent.
  • Ability to describe engineering tasks completed with AI assistance.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitHub or Bitbucket.
  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience delivering projects for external or internal clients in professional services or consulting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively with distributed and cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ownership, prioritization, and delivery with minimal supervision.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is listed under 'Education - If desired' and is not required.
