Job Description
Senior PHP Developer modernizing legacy PHP platforms with secure REST APIs, monitoring, and testing. Supporting CI&T’s enterprise clients through AI-focused technology transformation.
Responsibilities:
- Improve a legacy platform with API capabilities and enhanced error logging and monitoring
- Design and implement feature- and resource-oriented REST endpoints compatible with existing legacy code
- Author and generate OpenAPI/Swagger specifications
- Secure authentication and authorization for public-facing endpoints, including session-based authentication, rate limiting, and request validation
- Remedy and refactor critical legacy code issues affecting API implementation
- Implement structured logging and error tracking across the application
- Set up application performance and error monitoring with proactive alerts
- Write unit and integration tests for new API endpoints
- Coordinate with the client team to deliver changes without disrupting current functionality or ongoing feature development
- Participate in peer reviews, agile ceremonies, and sprint demonstrations for client stakeholders
Requirements:
- Experienced Senior PHP developer
- Solid experience with legacy PHP-based applications, including procedural PHP and light OOP
- Demonstrable REST API design experience, including versioning strategy and documentation
- Hands-on experience implementing API authentication, authorization, and rate limiting
- Strong MySQL knowledge and ability to work safely with existing schemas and queries
- Practical experience instrumenting PHP applications with structured logging and error tracking
- Familiarity with monitoring and alerting technology stacks in PHP-based environments
- Testing mindset for legacy code
- Working knowledge of continuous delivery and continuous integration, including Git and GitFlow
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Experience working within project management/agile delivery methodologies as part of a wider team
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Fluent in English
- Exposure to Spec Driven Development and machine-readable API contracts is a plus
- Hands-on experience with agentic SDLC is a plus
- Experience with observability tools is a plus
- Experience with security and compliance best practices is a plus
