Job Description

Senior Software Engineer building Ford’s cloud platform for connected vehicles. Designing distributed services and APIs that securely process data from more than 27 million vehicles worldwide.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, maintain, and support mission-critical cloud platform components enabling Ford’s connected vehicle capabilities
  • Own end-to-end delivery of software services powering critical customer experiences and supporting platform infrastructure
  • Act as domain owner for critical services, identifying and mitigating risks
  • Lead root-cause analysis for high-severity incidents
  • Drive reliability, observability, and performance improvements across the platform
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance for complex distributed systems
  • Influence design decisions, set engineering standards, and ensure scalable, resilient, and secure solutions
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to technical reviews, knowledge sharing, and best practices
  • Partner with product, operations, and cross-platform teams to align technical execution with business and regulatory priorities
  • Design, develop, evolve, and operate global distributed microservices and cloud-native platforms
  • Lead performance benchmarking, capacity planning, and load testing
  • Own operational readiness, service health, monitoring, tracing, logging, metrics, alerting, incident response, and SLA adherence
  • Champion platform modernization and architectural improvements
  • Evaluate security, compliance, cost, downstream consumer, and external partner implications
  • Lead design reviews, define best practices, and influence technical direction
  • Align technical decisions with customer experience, business outcomes, and platform sustainability

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical work experience
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, building, and operating production-grade distributed microservices
  • 8+ years of experience with Java and Spring Boot development
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Kafka and real-time data streaming architectures
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, primarily AWS, with openness/exposure to GCP
  • 3+ years of experience with API design and development, including REST, gRPC, JSON, and OpenAPI/Swagger
  • 3+ years of experience with relational databases, including PostgreSQL
  • 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, including ArgoCD, Concourse, and GitHub
  • 3+ years of operational experience with monitoring, telemetry, and incident response tools, including Grafana, Dynatrace, DataDog, OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics, Prometheus, and PagerDuty
  • Experience with primary/secondary on-call rotations
  • Expertise with Kubernetes/EKS, TDD, SonarQube, and FOSSA
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
