Job Description
Software Development Engineer in Test building automated testing and infrastructure for Sophos’s Linux cybersecurity engine. Maintaining Buildkite, cloud, Kubernetes, and Linux platform coverage.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and improve Buildkite CI, including pipelines, agents, queues, plugins, build performance and reliability
- Support the cloud estate used by manual, automated and CI systems, including upgrades and monitoring
- Build new test pipelines for features and platforms
- Write component, integration, end-to-end and stability automated tests
- Extend platform coverage across Linux distributions, kernel versions and container runtimes
- Contribute to test tooling for reproducing and running tests and scenarios
- Investigate and resolve flaky tests and unreliable infrastructure
- Instrument CI to expose build health, duration trends and failure patterns
- Work with infrastructure as code and migrate hand-built components
- Collaborate with developers and release engineering on testability and release readiness
- Identify quality risks early
- Help maintain CI and the test estate
Requirements:
- A few years' commercial experience in test automation, SDET, QA engineering or a similar role
- Track record of writing and maintaining automated tests
- Working programming ability in Python, Go, C++ or Rust, with willingness to learn the others
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines such as Buildkite, Jenkins, GitLab CI or GitHub Actions
- Practical cloud experience, ideally AWS, including IAM, compute, networking and storage basics
- Familiarity with containers and Kubernetes, including EKS, AKS and GKE
- Exposure to infrastructure as code such as Terraform, CloudFormation or Ansible, or clear interest in learning it
- Comfort with Git and modern code review workflows
- Linux fundamentals including processes, filesystems, networking, systemd, permissions, packaging and command-line troubleshooting
- Legal authorization to work in the jurisdiction where the position is posted
